Dedicated Board member Annette Feinstein always knew she wanted to be a nurse, and her natural warmth brought her on a foreordained course to Dana-Farber and the Friends. She grew up in Chelsea, Mass., and during her teens was a candy striper, writing letters and feeding patients at the Soldiers Home. After high school, she went to Beth Israel Hospital's School of Nursing in Boston.

Completing five years at Beth Israel as a head nurse, she became the supervisor responsible for the care of patients on surgical units.

Annette lives in Swampscott, Mass., with her husband, Paul. They have two daughters. Rebecca, a nursery school teacher who graduated from Curry College with a degree in theater arts and psychology, is mother of two young daughters and one son. Heidi earned degrees in Eastern Religion Studies from George Washington University, Interdisciplinary Healing from the Institute of Natural Health in Montreal and has a Master's degree in Expressive Therapy from Lesley University. She now owns Life Alive, an organic café in Lowell, Mass.

As president of the Temple Emanu-El Sisterhood, Annette instituted programs for feeding the needy and has established programs for the visually impaired in her community.

About her present activities, Annette said, "For the past 18 years, every Monday you can find me in the Perini Pediatric Clinic talking to families, playing with the children and volunteering wherever needed." Joining the Friends' Board gave her the chance to contribute to the fight against cancer from another perspective along with allowing her to become friends with a group of equally dedicated women.

Annette has worked on the Saks Fashion Targets Breast Cancer events, the 25th Anniversary Gala, the Boston Marathon® Jimmy Fund Walk, and has chaired the Friends' Holiday Decorations and Nominating Committees and co-chaired the Allocations Committee. For the past three years, she has been working four days a week as nurse at the Jewish Rehabilitation Center on the Alzheimer's unit. Mondays are spent with her kids at Dana-Farber and the rest of the week with the aged. The circle of life continues.

When time permits, reading, needlepoint, knitting and walking are her favorite hobbies and pastimes.
