Laury Edwards
Laury Edwards was born in Chicago, Ill., and shared her time growing up in St. Louis and Chicago. She attended the University of Connecticut and Northwestern University and has been married to Kent Edwards for 28 years.
Her major employment history was as a national radio rep and served as the first woman sales representative selling advertising time for her company. She began as a sales secretary in New York City, moved to Atlanta, to begin selling, transferred to Chicago, and finally to Philadelphia, where she became the first woman manager. It was also during this time that she met her husband.
When Laury moved to Boston, she handled local sales for WXKS/KISS 108 and then worked for Honeywell Electro-Optics Division as assistant to the the director of manufacturing.
Laury considered volunteering at Dana-Farber because her mother had died of cancer, and she wanted to help cancer patients in any way possible. When time finally permitted, she applied to Volunteer Services in 2001 and shortly afterwards started working in the Friends' Corner Gift Shop. That same year, she joined the Friends.
Laury contributes in many ways as a member of the Friends, serving as treasurer since 2004 and as co-chair of Holiday Performances for a number of years. She arranges various musical entertainment which is provided by groups from schools or organizations willing to donate their time and talent. These performances offer an enjoyable respite for patients waiting for their appointments. She considers the Friends an amazing organization with incredible members who are dedicated to raising funds for research and patient care.
