Meet the Members

Judie Beard Ham

For the past 39 years, Judie Beard Ham has worked in clinical research and medical research administration in several Boston area hospitals. She currently works at the VA Boston Healthcare System, Jamaica Plain Campus.

While employed at Dana-Farber, she was diagnosed with breast cancer in January 1993 and colon cancer in June 1993. She has been a member of One To One: The Cancer Connection since 1994 and was a founding member of the Adult Patient and Family Advisory Council. As a council member, she was active in Glitch Rounds, Side by Side, educational sessions with Dana-Farber fellows, and worked to include the Brigham and Women's Hospital surgical staff and residents in council activities.

Judie participated in the Jimmy Fund Walk for 10 years and was an appointed member of the Special Committee on Genetic Information Policy, a committee established by the Massachusetts Legislature to formulate state law on the use of genetic information.

Judie is currently facing the challenge of surgery in June for both thyroid cancer and breast cancer. She continues to teach water aerobics and travel with her husband, and is looking forward to moving to a lovely new condominium in mid-June 2006.
