Mellie Hutchinson
A native of Seattle, Wash., Mellie Hutchinson has lived in New England for the last 22 years. She has been involved in volunteer work for much of that time: she was vice-president of the Junior League of Boston, a guardian ad litem in the Boston Juvenile District Court, and a domestic violence advocate in the Hingham District Court. Her recent activities include working as a volunteer in the local food pantry and serving on the Parents and Teachers Organization (PTO) at the Hingham Middle School. Currently, she is training to become a wish grantor for the Make-a-Wish Foundation.
In 1989, Mellie spent 18 months traveling around the world and visiting over 40 countries. Today, she enjoys playing tennis, running, reading, gardening and spending time with her two sons, Elmo, 14, and Calvin, 11.
Mellie was diagnosed with breast cancer in August 2005 and was treated at Dana-Farber. Because of the compassionate care she received, she seeks to educate new patients about the unique services available at Dana-Farber. She is also training for the annual Pan-Massachusetts Challenge and has raised more than $7,500 toward that event. She looks forward to continuing her involvement at Dana-Farber and pursuing new adventures and challenges in her life.
